The race: Another fabulous day of racing in the Dolomites. On the penultimate climb, Roman Kreuziger, who had been fancied as a possible winner before his gornata no a couple of days ago that cost him more than 10 minutes, took off. He went by all the assorted breakaways and eventually found himself alone and off the front. He kept going and with the maglia rosa group breathing down his neck, he grit his teeth, dug deep and made it across the line with 19 seconds to spare.
High speed reduced the front chase group again to just a few. With about 2 kilometers to go in the second ascent of Alpe di Pampeago, Michele Scarponi put him three hard attacks. They put the others under pressure, but not the one rider he needed to drop, Ryder Hesjedal. After Scarponi's digs, Hesjedal unleashed his own bolt of aggression and no one could stay with him.
Rodriguez had initially been distanced, but he clawed his way back to Scarponi and beat him for third place. Basso did not have the legs at the end and said that barring something going wrong tomorrow, the race is Hesjedal's. Rodriguez concurred. But there's the Mortirolo and north face of the Stelvio tomorrow. A lot can happen.

Stage 19 profile
Another spectacular day in the Dolomites.
Luca Mazzanti wasn't the only rider to come to grief on a descent today.
Until the final kilometer, Joaquin Rodriguez never looked to be under stress.
Roman Kreuziger follows Ryder Hesjedal
Again Basso had to do without his best climbing gregario, Sylvester Szmyd who couldn't stay with the fast guys on the climbs today.
Sandy Casar and Stefano Pirazzi were away for a lot of the last half of the stage.
Roman Kreuziger redeemed himself with a fabulous ride.
Michele Scarponi knew he had do gain time on Hesjedal before the time trial, but he couldn't.
After Michele Scarponi put in three hard attacks near the top of Alpe di Pampeago, Hesjedal went over to the offensive.
Which gapped Rodriguez, Basso, Pozzovivo and Uran.
John Gadret had a good day today.
Roman Kreuziger had nothing left after crossing the line.
And neither did Hesjedal
Rodriguez found enough to catch and pass Scarponi.
Michele Scarponi's good ride moved him up to third.
Ivan Basso is running out of Giro and Hesjedal is not running out of gas.
