March 31, Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders): Tom Boonen crashed badly in the opening kilometers of the 2013 Tour of Flanders. Before the race was 20 kilometers old he was in an ambulance to a hospital in Roeselare, Belgium after having fallen badly on his left knee, hip and elbow. He required stitches on his right knee but has no fractures. Boonen is not only out of De Ronde, he will also miss Paris-Roubaix. Boonen is the current Belgian Road Champion and winner of both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix in 2012.
