Coppa Sabatini team reports
We posted the report from Alexey Lutsenko's Team Astana with the results
Here's the report from second-place Sonny Colbrelli's Bahrain-Merida team:
Peccioli (Tuscany), September 19th – Sonny Colbrelli takes another podium place at “Gran Premio Città di Peccioli – Coppa Sabatini”, finishing second for the third time in a row with Team Bahrain Merida.
He was looking for the hat-trick, but today’s winner Alexey Lutsenko showed to be the strongest, taking a solo win after 87 km on the breakaway.
“I haven't any regrets,” Colbrelli says “He was simply too strong and our attempt of chasing couldn’t succeed”. The Italian rider tried to bridge the gap to Lutsenko, that was part of the early day’s break, that included also our rider Antonio Nibali.
“We know Lutsenko, he is a great champion and he already took victories like this. He deserved it. We did everything we could to catch him, but his advantage was enough to solo to win”.
Sonny Colbrelli winning Coppa Sabatini in 2016.
Colbrelli takes the sprint for second place, ahead of Velasco (3rd) and Sbaragli (4th). This is his third-time second place in Peccioli after two wins (2014-2016). Anyway, he is satisfied: “I’m happy with this result because after a successful Deutschland Tour, in Canada for some reasons as jetlag and a stomach virus I couldn’t take the results expected. I wanted to test my shape here in this race, ahead of the World Championships and I had good signals”.
Are supply shortages hitting Europe’s biggest E-Bike market?
Bike Europe sent me this:
BAD SODEN, Germany – With the coming into force of the anti-dumping tariffs on the import of e-bikes from China mid-January 2019, that import has fallen to a negligible number. Of course, other countries have jumped into this gap, like Taiwan. But this cannot fill the supply gap that comes with the greatly reduced supply from China. The consequences of this now become apparent from the latest data of Germany’s industry association. It raises the question if supply shortages are hitting on Europe’s biggest e-bike market.
That e-bikes continue to boost the German bicycle industry, is the obvious conclusion when viewing the sales total for the first half of 2019. According to the newest market data released by Germany’s industry association ‘Zweirad-Industrie-Verband’ (ZIV) that number stands at 920,000 electric bicycles; a plus of no less than 37.3 percent compared to the same period in 2018!
