Strade Bianche bicycle race officially cancelled

Teams are reporting that they have been informed that Saturday's Strade Bianche bicycle race has been officially cancelled because of the coronavirus threat.

Before that cancellation, several teams had already pulled out of the race. On Wednesday, Team INEOS announced that they were not going to compete until March 23 and today both Astana and Ag2r annouced racing suspensions. Who would ride the race?

Here is the organizer's press release:

"After the meeting this morning at the Prefecture of Siena in the presence of His Excellency the Prefect and the Mayor of Siena, verified that there are no conditions for guaranteeing the provisions of the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic Italian of 4 March 2020, RCS Sport in agreement with the competent authorities has decided to cancel the cycling races scheduled for Saturday 7 March Strade Bianche and Strade Bianche Women Elite. RCS Sport through the Italian Cycling Federation will ask UCI to relocate the cycling routes Strade Bianche and Strade Bianche Women Elite to another date on the international cycling calendar."

No word yet on GP Industria & Artigianato, Tirreno-Adriatico and Milano San Remo.

More later, I'm sure.
