George Hincapie (born June 29, 1973) raced professionally from 1994 to 2012.

I remember years ago at an east coast trade show, a bike shop owner showed me a picture of George Hincapie while he was racing as a junior. The shop owner told me young Hincapie was special, that his huge talent would lead him to become an extraordinary racer. That prediction turned out to be true.

Sadly, Hincapie was caught up in the doping of his era, which wasn't helped by his racing as a domestique for Lance Armstrong. In 2012 he acknowledged his use of banned performance-enhancing drugs and was suspended from racing for six months. He was also stripped of his race results between May 31, 2004 and July 31, 2006.

Hincapie is a big man for a road racer, 6' 3" (1.9 meters) tall and weighing 174 lbs. (79 kg).

Despite all those troubles, the well-liked rider accumulated an impressive list of wins and high placings. He finished 16 Tours de France, tying Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk's record. But, he was stripped of three of those Tours because of his doping.

In 1998, with his brother, he started his own cycling clothing company, Hincapie Sportwear, and it remains in business as of this writing (2015).
