European Road Championships

The European road cycling championships have been run since 1995, but until 2005, the race was only for Under-23 racers. In 2005 there was also a race for Juniors

Plato's Apology

It wasn't until 2016 when the race was held in Plumelec, France, that there was a European Championship competition for Elite riders. Starting with that year, there is both an individual time trial and road race for both Elite Men and Elite Women.

Currently (2021) the championships are held in late summer.

The reigning champion gets to wear a special jersey with blue bands and yellow stars, the graphic derived from the flag of the Council of Europe
