Weather at Bologna, near the start/finish city of Monteveglio at 1:45 PM, local time: 19C (67F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the east at 13 km/hr (8 mph). Only the slightest chance of rain during the late afternoon.
The race: Here's the report from winner Sonny Colbrelli's Bahrain-Merida team.
Monteveglio, October 6th, 2019 – After a great sprint, Sonny Colbrelli wins the GP Beghelli in front of Spaniard Alejandro Valverde and Australian Jack Haig.
“I wanted to have a good race – explains Sonny – also because my family came to see me with my little daughter Vittoria. We had a great day and I have to thank Ivan Garcia Cortina because on the last lap he was decisive and he helped me a lot”.
“On the last descent I took some risks but I had to recover on the attackers, then in the sprint, I knew I was the fastest and everything went well. It is my third victory of the year and it came after the good World championship last Sunday”.
Cortina gave great help to the winner coming 7th under the finish line: “I like to end the season here in Italy because there are races suitable for me with short climbs. When Valverde attacked going uphill in the last lap I was behind him to help Sonny. We were able to stretch on the attackers, then Sonny was the best at the sprint”.
Last comment to SD Franco Pellizotti: “Today the boys did a very good job and first Andrea Garosio and Yukiya Arashiro closed on the breakaway and then in the last 50-60km we defended very well. In the finale, both Sonny and Ivan were perfect finalizing the great work of the team”.
