Tour de France: the Inside Story

The Race: Milano-Torino currently finishes with two ascents of the Colle di Superga with the finish at the top of the second climb.

Though the race had been active with numerous attacks and a few breakaways, the peloton was largely intact for the second time up the Superga. Katusha rider Sergei Chernetski made the first move. He was chased by teammate Giampaolo Caruso with Rinaldo Nocentini and a couple of others on his wheel. It was soon just Caruso and Nocentini as they blew by Chernetski.

This day Caruso had the suds and won alone, three seconds ahead of Nocentini. Despite a slug of recent high placings, this is Caruso's first win since 2009.
