The race:
The Vuelta a Andalucia (Tour of Andalucia), a week-long stage race held in southern Spain during late February is more popularly known as the Ruta del Sol.
A single edition in 1925 was organized by the secretary of the Spanish cycling federation, Miguel Arteman. After that, the race remained dormant until it was revived by the Malagueña Cycling Association in 1955.
Between 1979 and 1986 it was called the Ruta Ciclista del Sol, referring to the Costa del Sol of Spain.
In 1993 it was finally named Vuelta a Andalucia-Ruta del Sol. That should make everyone happy.
Because of ongoing farmers' protests, the 2024 edition consisted solely of 4.95 km individual time trial.
