Thursday, June 28: Stage 10, Lausanne - Lausanne, 175.9 km. The last stage. They head east out of Lausanne, following the north shore of Lake Geneva. Then, at km 37, they head back and north up to Yverdon on the farthest southeast tip of Lake Neuchatel. Just after that (km 121) is the first rated climb, a Cat 3, 766m. As they head south back to Lake Geneva, there is a cat 4 climb (742m) at km 141. They arrive east of Lausanne on the north shore of the lake and have a flat run into town for a likely sprinter's fest.

Wednesday, June 27: Stage 9, Sion - Lausanne, 167 km. Starting at Sion (472m), the route goes east-southeast, following the Rhone River. The river and the race make a turn to the north at km 25. The river goes to Lake Geneva, the racers head off into a loop that circles around to the east and north and then comes to the eastern north shore of the Lake. As part of this loop, they meet a category 2 climb at Les Mosses (1436m) at km 75. The road undulates a bit after that until they reach the north shore of the lake. Then, they motor on into Lausanne (375m).

Tuesday, June 26: Stage 8, Sion - Crans Montana, 25.1 km Individual Time Trial. Sion sits on the Rhone River at 509m elevation. For the first 10 kilometers, the route is flat as it follows the river. Then, it heads north, off onto a little swtchback road to Crans Montana (1498 m). This might give a preview of Stage 18 of the Tour de France with its uphill time trial at Grenoble.

Monday, June 25: Stage 7, Locarno - Naters, 156.6 km. Locarno is on about the northernmost part of Lake Maggioire, just inside Switzerland, almost due north of Milan. The route follows the Ticino river north and then east towards the St. Gotthard pass. At km 77, they climb to Ariolo (1137m), a category 2 climb. At this point, instead of continuing north through the St. Gotthard, they take a small road east for the tough Nufenen Pass (2478m), at km 102 which is an "Above Category" (HC) rated climb. They then join the Rhone River and fly downhill to Naters (674m).

At kilometer 50, Stefano Garzelli (Mapei) is alone and 5min 52sec ahead of the field.

Garzelli wins after being away for over 130 kilometers.

Sunday, June 24: Stage 6, Mendrisio - Mendrisio, 174.5 km. Mendrisio is just up the road from Como and the Italian border. The race heads almost due north from there, up to Bellinzona, then does a 180 and heads back to Mendrisio for 3 circuits going from Chiasso (the city directly across the Italian border from Como) and back up to Mendrisio. This is a bit of a grinder stage. No high climbs, but relentless rising and falling will take their toll. Monte Ceneri (554m) is attacked from both sides, but it is a cat 4 climb. There is an unnamed cat 4 climb just outside Chiasso that is hit 3 times in the final circuits.

Saturday, June 23: Stage 5, Wilnau/Herrbrugg - Gotthard, 221 km. A short transfer to Wildnau (408m), just south of the Bodensee sees the start of this tough stage. The route follows the Rhein south and east for quite a while. At km 105 is the first rated climb, a category 3. At km 168 is the Oberalp-Passhoe, category 1at 2044 meters. Then, there are two climbs up the Above Category San Gotthard (2094m) with the second time up being the hilltop finish. The pavement is cobbled in the last few kilometers, being a real test of reserves and power.

What a ride!!!! Dmitri Konyshev stays away for 200 kilometers in an epic breakaway.

Friday, June 22: Stage 4, Baar - Wildhaus, 144 km. This is a tougher stage with two category 3 climbs and a hilltop finish on a Category 2 climb at Wildhaus. The stage starts at Baar (460m), just north of the Zugsee (and directly south of Zurich) and heads east-north-east, passing under the Zurichsee. At Altstatten, just south of the Bodensee, they hook around to the south and then to the west to Wildhaus (1090m).

Starting at Reinach just outside Basel, the race heads due east for half the trip, then south, passing to the east of Zurich at Dietikom on the way to Baar. There are 3 category 4 climbs. Two of them are on the finishing lap the race does twice down to Zug and then back up to Baar.
