Weather at the finish city of Gladsaxe at 2:15 PM, local time: 21C (70F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the southeast at 6 km/hr (4 mph). No rain is forecast until 5:00 PM when there is an 11% chance of rain.

The race: Here's the report from stage winner Tobias Lund Andresen's Team dsm-firmenich PostNL.

Tobias Lund Andresen rounded out a very successful week of racing at the Tour of Denmark for Team dsm-firmenich PostNL with stage victory on the fifth and final stage, his third of the week after the opening team time trial win and his sprint victory on stage 3. With today’s result, Lund Andresen also wrapped up the Points Classification taking home the green jersey he crossed the line first in on today’s final stage.

The stage featured a strong breakaway of six riders which needed careful monitoring, one that the team helped control throughout with an eye on setting up another bunch sprint. Between pace setting and keeping Lund Andresen well positioned, the team all played their part once more in helping set up another victory for the team. Having brought the break back into the fold in the closing kilometres, the guys teed up a perfect lead-out to set up Lund Andresen for another powerful, convincing sprint finish.

With the victory, Lund Andresen secured green whilst the team also took home the overall Team Classification too.

Tobias Lund Andresen wins the final stage.

After the stage, Tobias Lund Andresen said: “We had a clear plan from the start and we kept that the whole day. We controlled the break so that the speed would be high towards the end, which was really good for us. On the laps the positioning was key and everyone did their job perfectly. The win is nice today, but how we won is what makes it special.”

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL added: “After yesterday’s small disappointment of not being able to go for the win, we were determined to do that today. We made a good plan to invest in the chase, luckily other teams were also awake after yesterday and joined us. We basically kept everything under control with Warren and Alex, then on the local lap Frank did a great job putting Sean, Nils and Tobi in a good condition and keeping them comfortable. Then in the last kilometres, Sean, Nils and Frank performed a perfect lead-out. It’s not often that a plan falls into place as well as it did today but it’s really, really nice to finish with a victory – a great end to a nice week in Denmark.”

Story of the Giro d'Italia volume 2

Bill and Carol McGann's book The Story of the Giro d'Italia, A Year-by-Year History of the Tour of Italy, Vol 2: 1971 - 2011 is available in print, Kindle eBook and audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the finish city of Holbæk at 1:50 PM, local time: 20C (68F), partly cloudy, with the wind from the west at 13 km/hr (8 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Here's a machine translation of the race organizer's stage 4 summary.

A beautiful morning on a packed square in St. Heddinge formed the framework for today's team presentation before the field had to be sent out on today's 177 kilometers.

The first team on stage was the Norwegian Team Coop-Repsol, who, in tribute to the Norwegian Cancer Society, were dressed in pink accessories in the form of wigs, glasses etc. and thus created a festive start to today's presentation.

A popular one was also 82-year-old Bent Tscherning G.V. Nielsen, who through P3's dream team, fulfilled his dream of starting a stage of the cycle race. Of course, PostNord Danmark Rundt helped fulfill that dream, so together with Mayor Henning Urban Dam from Stevns Municipality, Bent Tscherning sent the riders off on today's stage.

Of today's 177 km, the first 40 km are driven around Stevns, where the field includes came to Rødvig, past Stevns lighthouse and the beautiful Vallø Castle. After 104 km, the riders had to go out on a 10 km rather tough circuit at Maglesø/Mørkemosen, which had to be completed three times.

The route then followed small roads to Holbæk via the beautiful road along the Isefjord. The fourth stage ended with a 6 km long circuit in the heart of Holbæk, where the riders had to go up Ahlgade three times, before the winner had to be chosen on Havnevejen. A group of three tried and established a lead of up to half a minute. Today's winner Jelte Krijnsen (Parkhotel Valkenburg) sat in that group. He got free and drove solo across the finish line with 24 seconds down to the field, where the sprint was won by yesterday's stage winner Tobias Lund Andresen (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL).

Bill & Carol McGann’s book The Story of the 2023 Tour de France, 2023: The Viking Again Conquers the Tour is available in both Kindle eBook & audiobook versions. To get your copy, just click on the Amazon link on the right.

Weather at the finish city of Haderslev at 2:15 PM, local time: 20C (68F), cloudy, with the wind from the northwest at 11 km/hr (7 mph). There is a 46% chance of rain.

The race: Here's the report from stage winner Tobias Lund Andresen's Team dsm-firmenich PostNL.

Following on from their nail-biting TTT win on stage one, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL rode brilliantly once again and continued their great form at the Tour of Denmark, controlling the stage before setting up Tobias Lund Andresen who surged to the win in the uphill sprint finish.

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL worked brilliantly as a unit throughout the stage with the dual goal of keeping their GC placings safe, but with a view of setting up the fast-finishing Lund Andresen for the finale. The break rode well together however and with the stage win potentially hanging in the balance, it required a strong chase from Alex Edmondson initially to keep things in check as they approached the local lap circuit before Warren Barguil took over.

From there, Frank van den Broek and Sean Flynn helped to keep the guys safe before Nils Eekhoff did a phenomenal last pull as final lead-out man, creating a high tempo on the rise before the line to string things out. Lund Andresen expertly followed the wheels and chose his moment to launch perfectly, coming around the opposition with a devastating kick, where he could sit up and celebrate the team’s second win of the race so far; and the Men’s program’s 17th of the season.

An elated Lund Andresen said: “It was a really good day. We stayed calm from the start and didn’t work too early; when we saw it might be close, we also then invested in bringing the break back. There were small roads throughout the day and the guys did really well to keep me in front as there were a lot of crashes in the bunch. Coming into the final we were a bit far back but really trusted each other and made our move up when we needed to. I’m really happy to be able to finish it off for the team today.”

Weather at the finish city of Vejle at 1:50 PM, local time: 24C (75F), fair, with the wind from the southwest at 14 km/hr (9 mph). No rain is forecast.

The race: Jarrad Drizners (Lotto Dstny) did not start.

Here's the report from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL:

After Wednesday’s brilliant opening team time trial win, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL set out with the goal of trying to defend the race leader’s jersey on Thursday’s challenging stage – which included the now traditional Tour of Denmark circuit finish in Vejle; with its leg-sapping and steep final climb to the line. Keeping tabs on things from the off, the team rode well as a unit and helped to contribute to the pace setting on the front of the bunch alongside other teams before they entered the hilly circuit. With the breakaway caught the attacks flew from the bunch with the team particularly active, before Sean Flynn and Frank van den Broek made it into a promising move of around eight riders. Working well together the group extended their gap over the ever reducing peloton to around 30 seconds but bad luck struck for the team as Van den Broek suffered a puncture, and having to return to the chasers.

Ahead, Flynn rode a strong and savvy race, while on the final lap Van den Broek tried to launch a counter attack to bridge to the leaders, putting in a valiant solo effort to minimise the time loss in the GC battle. Coming onto the last ascent of the climb, Flynn was well positioned and gave it his all on the stinging slopes, eventually taking a strong sixth place come the line.

Speaking after the stage Flynn said: “The day started fairly calm and Johan and Alex did a great job controlling the breakaway. The race was nervous from a long way out and it really opened up with around 80 kilometres to go. Our plan was to race aggressively and see if we could solidify Frank with a good position in GC. We were executing this well putting myself and Frank in the key move of the day. Unfortunately Frank got a flat tyre leaving me alone in front. I was happy with my shape and was able to fight at the front right down to the end. It was good to see Frank keep on fighting to nearly catch back up to the front on the final lap. I’m looking forward to the next few days racing.”

Weather at the race city of Holstebro at 2:10 PM, local time: 23C (76F), mostly cloudy, with the wind from the north at 10 km/hr (6 mph). There is an 18% chance of rain.

Stage description: The 33rd edition of PostNord Danmark Rundt gets a historic start in Holstebro. The race begins with a 13.7 km long team time trial. Team time runs have never before been run in PostNord Danmark Rundt.

After the start at the city's famous art museum, it is driven along Viborgvej, left along Sletten, past Vandkraftsøen, before the teams pass the intermediate time at 7.5 km. After the passage, the riders drive into Mejdal, before taking large roads to the finish line. The goal is located next to the Musikteatret, right in the center of the city. The route is 13.7 km and largely flat, and it must be described as technically easy.

This year's PostNord Danmark Rundt is part of the celebration of the city's 750th anniversary, which will be celebrated throughout 2024. It is the 10th time the race has visited Holstebro.

The race: First team off is scheduled to be Team dsm-firmenich PostNL at 4:15 PM.

Here's the stage one report from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL:

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL raced to opening stage victory around the streets of Holstebro at the Tour of Denmark today, beating second place by the smallest of margins but doing enough to put home rider Tobias Lund Andresen in the leader’s jersey going into tomorrow’s second stage.

The relatively short 13.7 kilometre time trial was pan flat and one where a cohesive team effort was paramount to success. The guys rode a superb effort, gradually leaving Andresen with Johan Dorussen and Frank van den Broek by the finish.

With the victory, Andresen also now leads the point and young rider classifications, with Dorussen set to start tomorrow’s stage in a leader’s jersey in second place as a result.

After the stage, Tobias Lund Andresen said: “It was a really nice day today. We had a chance to do some laps before the race and to make a good plan. I think we executed this perfectly with the turns. We lost a couple of guys on the way but we also planned that if we only gave four left then we push on after half way. It’s really nice to get my home race started like this and nice to have the yellow jersey. Now we can look forward to the rest of the stages.”

Team dsm-firmenich PostNL coach Roy Curvers added: “We wanted to go for the win today because we all believed we could. We made a solid plan and executed in a good way. The guys were absolutely drilling it and left every bit of energy out on the road. It was also really nice to see that the small advantages were on our side today. A TTT win is always great because you have the whole team on the podium, but also because so many other members of the team not riding but working behind the riders also work closely on a TTT, so that puts everybody in Team dsm-firmenich PostNL colours at the heart of the win today.”
