Tour of Flanders, the Inside Story

Les Woodland's book Tour of Flanders: The Inside Story - The rocky roads of the Ronde van Vlaanderen is available as an audiobook here.

1906 Tour Quick Facts:

4,637 km raced at an average speed of 24.46 km/hr

This was a substantial increase from 1905's 3,021 km and resulted in a much slower average speed.

76 starters and only 14 classified finishers.

Protesters continued to harass the Tour, spreading nails on the road.

René Pottier proved his climbing superiority with wins in several mountain stages. His stage three ride entailed an epic 220 km solo breakaway
