Argos-Shimano put a lot of bodies at the front, hoping for a John Degenkolb stage win. Degenkolb ended up with a terrible position in the final meters and was out of the running.

Radi Shack's Daniele Bennati waited until the last moment to come off Ben Swift's wheel. Perfectly timed to win by millimeters. At first the Eurosport commentator thought Swift had won the stage, it was that close.
