September 26: Elite Women's Road Race, 129.8 km/ 80.6 miles
Elizabeth Armitstead is the new Elite Women's World Champion
The race: There can be no doubt. None. Today Elizabeth Armitstead was the finest, most capable woman road racer in the world and truly deserved winning the rainbow jersey.
This was an aggressive race, with numerous attacks flying off the front and being brought back to the field.
In the final lap Armitstead tried to go clear a couple of times, but in the end, was in a lead group of nine that rolled to the finish. After those attacks one would have thought Armitstead would no longer have a sharp turn of speed.
But, in the final rush to the line she drove hard at the front to clearly win the race and become the world champion.
