The race:

Held in Hamburg, the Hamburg Cyclassic (formerly HEW Cyclassic) was round 6 in the old World Cup competition. In 1998, it became a World Cup race, replacing England's Rochester Classic. It is now part of the World Tour.

The race is held after the Tour de France. It has been run as late as late as September but currently (2009) it is held in mid-August.

The race was sponsored by Hamburg's power supplier, Vattenfall Europe Hamburg. This firm was originally called HEW, but changed its name in 2006, hence the 2006 name change to Vattenfall for the race as well.

The roughly 250-kilometer race is run in and around Hamburg, Germany. The organizers find enough hills in the area to break up the field. The Hamburg Cyclassics rarely ends in a mass sprint.

In 2016 the race got a new sponsor, EuroEyes.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the race was not held in 2000 and 2021. When it was re-started in 2022 the race had a new sponsor and became the Bemer Cyclassics.
